We’ve had a few mini tubs of ice cream sitting in the bottom of our freezer for a few weeks now and I hadn’t paid any attention to them. Until a couple of days ago we watched The Great British Bake Off on TV and by the power of suggestion Vinu suddenly needed a dessert. She pulled out a tub of the ice cream and said “want to try this?”
I looked at the tub and the penny dropped. There was a reason that she bought these tiny tubs of rather expensive ice cream. The chocolate ice cream in front of me was made entirely from 4 simple plant ingredients, with the implication that they are not heated above 45C in production.
The ingredients list for the Booja Booja Hunky Punky Chocolate Ice Cream was simply:
“What? You can’t make ice cream out of those ingredients. Can you?”
OK, this is clearly not a health food as it must have a lot of agave, but as far as ice cream goes, this must surely be about as good as it gets. That being the case, I assumed that it must taste pretty weird.
But it didn’t. It tasted like really good quality chocolate ice cream. Every spoon I ate, I looked back at the ingredients list with suspicion. “Is it really possible to make something with this appearance, taste and texture with those four simple ingredients? Why haven’t we discovered this before?”
It seems like it is too good to be true, but it seems that it is actually true.
I think this is cause for a celebration. Anyone feel like Ice Cream?
